Thanksgiving Celebrations in Mexico

While Thanksgiving traditions in Mexico are quite similar to those in America, there are some differences. In Mexico and in the U.S., Thanksgiving celebrations focus on a harvest concept including decorations such as fall leaves, pumpkins, assorted fruits, regional flowers, and autumn color schemes. Thanksgiving is a time where people give thanks to God for their blessings and spend time with their family and friends. It is common practice in Mexico for guests at a Thanksgiving meal to share a short prayer of gratitude at the beginning of the meal. Although a religious component of Thanksgiving is still evident in some American households, it is especially common in Mexico with more than 82% of the Mexican population identifying as Catholic.

Flavors of a Mexican Thanksgiving

American style Thanksgiving meal usually consists of a cooked turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy, vegetables and cranberry sauce. Mexico has added some unique foods to make Thanksgiving in Mexico an extra special event. Did you know that some people celebrating Thanksgiving in Mexico will prepare traditional dishes such as marinated roast pork instead of turkey? If a cooked turkey is on the menu, it may be made with a green mole sauce or contain spicy chipotle peppers. Some parts of Mexico you will find turkey enchiladas, chorizo pumpkin soup or a candied pumpkin dessert on the Thanksgiving menu. Are you going to be in Mexico at Villa La Estancia in Cabo or Riviera Nayarit during Thanksgiving this year?

Tips for Expats in Mexico

Are you an expat that is planning on moving to Mexico? If you are, then you undoubtedly be fascinated by the rich history, welcoming locals, and amazing weather, but there is more to Mexico than just fine cuisine and breathtaking beaches. If you want to live the best life that you can in paradise, then you will need to adapt with your local community as well. Will you be moving to Mexico or hope to soon? If so, then read our tips for expats in Mexico below, so you can live the best life in your new country and home.

Tips for Expats in Mexico: Keep Your Expectations in Check

Many expats may encounter unknown obstacles when moving to Mexico, or any new country. You should keep your expectations in check so you can adapt to your new home with ease. You need to stay open minded about how other people live in Mexico, especially when it differs from what you are used to. For example, it’s very common for individuals to seemingly invade other people’s personal space, but this is culturally accepted and not considered rude. Don’t become offended if this happens to you, you simply need to understand and accept this as this is the new place you are calling home now. A stranger may appear to invade your personal space as people stand closer to one another, and this may not be comfortable to you. However, as an expat moving to Mexico, you need to try to understand they are not being rude to you. This is the normal way of life for many people in Mexico. Also, be prepared to give hugs and cheek kisses to people that you meet, as this is how people in Mexico greet one another whether you are old friends or meeting for the first time.

Tips for Expats in Mexico: Learn to Be Patient

You need to learn to be patient and nice to people around you if you want to live your best life when moving to Mexico. It is not polite for an expat to be loud and rude in public when voicing their personal opinions with Mexican natives. Nearly all Mexicans are very nice and welcoming to foreigners, so you should return the favor. When you are out and about, you should always greet people and show a kind spirit. If you want to integrate yourself well into your new community, then you need to get to know your neighbors on a personal level. You should try to learn to speak Spanish, even though some expats live a great life in Mexico without ever learning the language. However, if you do learn at least some basic Spanish you will have a much more fulfilling experience. Your new life in Mexico will be enriched if you learn to speak Spanish, and there are classes available that are very affordable, too. One important word that you should learn is “Usted”, which is how you formally address someone you meet for the first time, or anyone who is older than you.

Tips for Expats in Mexico: Keep Cash and Coins With You For Tips

Many of the locals in Mexico earn their living by selling their handmade items at the beach, selling fresh fruits and vegetables, and washing windshields of cars. Expats should always be grateful for what they have, and sharing with others really goes a long way. If you can afford it, then you should keep cash and coins with you for tips. For example, the people that bag groceries at grocery stores don’t receive a regular paycheck as their tips is their paycheck. Therefore, you should tip them when you buy groceries, then if someone helps you put the groceries in your car or even takes your shopping cart back for you, you should tip them as well.

Tips for Expats: Try To Avoid Speaking Loudly

Living in Mexico for almost ten years and being an American expat, it can be very annoying when you hear other Americans speaking English excessively loud. You have to remember that you are actually a guest living in Mexico, and you need to show respect for others. Just tone the volume down. Also, you should never make fun of others who aren’t able to speak English regardless of where you are in the world. You should appreciate life when moving to Mexico, and you should try to learn Spanish, too.

Tips for Expats: Public Restroom Preparation

You may be shocked to know that some public restrooms at restaurants or bars don’t always have toilet paper and soap available. To resolve this small issue, you should carry soap or hand sanitizer and toilet paper with you. If you do, and you need to use the restroom, then you will have no problems. Also, most of the businesses and homes in Mexico don’t have A/C, so the temperature inside will be just as they are outside. Just dress accordingly to the weather.

Just go with the flow when moving to Mexico. You have just read the top tips for expats in Mexico. Try using these tips, and your new life in Mexico is sure to be interesting, fulfilling and as wonderful as you hoped it would be.

In order to be declared a Pueblo Magico, they must meet three requirements. To begin with, the architecture should be very pleasing. The balconies, facades, and roofs should all be painted the same color tone chosen from a list of seven approved colors that the National Institute of Anthropology and History selected. Secondly, the town, city, or village should have their own unique cultural identity that shows the traditional history. Moving to Mexico Checklist

Are you moving to Mexico for retirement, or to start a new lifestyle? Or are you still considering and weighing out the pros and cons of moving to Mexico? We have put together a few things to consider if you are planning on moving to Mexico. There are obviously lots of details involved when moving to a new country, but this checklist should help point out the most important factors to consider if you are moving to Mexico.

Travel Arrangements and Documentation

To begin with, make sure that you and all members of your family have the proper travel documentation needed to enter Mexico. All family members moving to Mexico must have a valid Passport at time of travel, and if you plan to live and work in Mexico you will also need to apply for the appropriate Visa. All foreign travelers that enter Mexico are granted a 6 month tourist Visa, but it is recommended you begin the application process for a resident Visa like a FM-2 or FM-3 Visa if you are moving to Mexico. It may make sense to enlist the services of a immigration lawyer who can help guide you through the immigration process for a fee. Also, if you plan to fly, make sure all flights and travel arrangements are booked ahead of time so that your move can be as smooth as possible.

Valid Passport and Driver’s License

Be aware that your native country Passport must be valid for at least one year when you apply for a resident Visa when moving to Mexico. If your Passport is about to expire, it is recommended you first renew the Passport for another term before you submit your resident Visa application to the Mexican consulate. Is your Driver’s License from your home country still valid? If not, it may also make sense to renew your Driver’s License before you leave as well. Although Mexico does not require you to have a Mexican Driver’s License to legally drive when moving to Mexico, it will help if you have a valid driver’s license from your home country, at least at first. Down the road, you can apply for a Mexican driver’s license as well. Some cities require that you pass a written test only, and others require that you pass a driving test in addition to pay the applicable fees.

Are You Bringing Pets?

Are you planning on Fido the dog and Fluffy the cat moving to Mexico with you? The good news is, cats and dogs can be brought into Mexico. However, you do have to ensure your pet has the required vaccinations and their health papers in order. A valid Health Certificate issued by an licensed veterinarian and proof of vaccines against rabies and distemper are required to be administered at least 15 days before you attempt to bring your pet to Mexico. Currently, only cats and dogs can be brought into Mexico under these terms. If you have other animals such as rabbits, snakes, birds, etc, you are required to apply for special import permits and pay additional fees.

Make a Checklist: What to Bring and What to Leave

Be prepared and make a checklist of what items you definitely want to take with you when you are moving to Mexico, and also make a checklist of what you can leave behind. It may make sense to have a garage sale or donate items that you truly don’t need. Take advantage of the opportunity to declutter and focus on what essentials you want to bring with you when moving to Mexico. Depending on what city in Mexico you plan to live in, most items are available in Mexico. Some food items or clothing may have harder to find, but in general, you can find everything you need when moving to Mexico. Look at it as a good chance to minimize material possessions and focus on what truly matters…quality time with your loved ones.

Arrange Temporary Housing in Mexico

Do you already have a home or apartment rental secured for your move? Regardless of what time of year you are moving, make sure to make accommodation arrangements well in advance. High season can mean higher prices and less availability so make sure to plan ahead. Whether you choose a temporary hotel or AirBnb at first, don’t wait until the last minute or you could end up spending a lot of extra money on temporary housing when moving to Mexico. It is a good idea to try to arrange a month by month rental if possible so you can decide how you like the area and town you live in before you commit to a long term lease or real estate purchase. Speaking of Mexican real estate, there are lots of high quality properties available in Mexico at a fraction of the price you would pay in the States or Canada. Once you have settled in Mexico, purchasing full ownership or fractional ownership Mexican real estate property could be a smart move. Quality Mexican real estate at a great price is one of the top reasons why expats end up moving to Mexico.

When moving to Mexico, make sure to plan ahead and make sure all your Passport documents are in order before you move. Taking your pets when moving to Mexico? Make sure their vaccinations are up to date, and that you have the appropriate health certificate to avoid delays on your pet being allowed to enter Mexico. Lastly, make sure all your travel arrangements and accommodations are in order so that moving to Mexico is an enjoyable and exciting time for everyone.

Infinity Pools – Luxury And Aesthetics

It goes without saying that infinity pools are a stunning sight to see as they seem to seamlessly blend in with their background. Due to their mesmerizing allure and beauty, infinity pools have become more and more popular over the last few decades. By definition, an infinity pool is a reflecting or swimming pool where the water flows over one or more sides so that it appears as if the pool has no edge. Pools are designed as such to create a beautiful visual effect that is calming and aesthetically pleasing. Many times Infinity pools are constructed in a way so that they appear to merge with another larger body of water, usually the ocean if the pool is situated in a beachfront location. Read below to learn more about the history of the infinity pool and its origins, as well as the spectacular infinity pools at the luxurious Villa La Estancia.

The History of Infinity Pools

Many believe that the first infinity pool dated all the way back to the late 17th century in France at the Stag Fountain on the Palace of Versailles grounds. The Stag Fountain was one of the first vanishing-edge designs found in the entire world. Several centuries later in the United States, architect John Lautner is credited as the person to come up with a modern infinity pool design. In the early 1960’s, he initiated the development of infinity pools in a variety of residential projects he was working on. He is even created the infinity pool seen in the 1971 James Bond movie, “Diamonds Are Forever.”

Architecturally Complex Structure

When compared to regular polls, infinity pools are more expensive and require complex structural and mechanical design in order to create the vanishing-edge style that is so stunning. In addition, infinity pools are usually built in precarious or potentially dangerous locations such as hillsides, so it is extra important to construct a structurally sound and solid base. The elaborate foundation system is key in order to effectively and safely anchor the pool to a hillside, or another architecturally challenging location. This drives the cost up significantly. Also, in order to create the illusion of the vanishing edge, infinity pools must have an edge that is around ¼ of an inch lower than the pool’s water level. A basin or trough is constructed to catch water as it flows over the pool’s edge and is then be circulated back into the pool via a water pump.

Is In-House Financing Available?

Villa La Estancia is one of the few luxury properties that does offer in-house financing for qualified buyers. For a limited time, our developer’s units can be financed for a term up to 10 years. A 25% deposit of the share price is required in order to be able to utilize the in-house financing program. In general, the majority of property owners in Mexico pay cash or use a line of home equity credit from their primary home. So Villa La Estancia is proud to offer these added benefit to its homeowners.

How Does Maintenance Work?

Villa La Estancia takes extreme pride in the careful maintenance of the common areas, amenities, individual residences and the lush landscaping. An onsite property management team handles all necessary maintenance repairs, replacements and wear and tear as needed to keep Villa La Estancia looking brand new. Regular pool maintenance is also carried out by an onsite professional team, and any structural maintenance such as painting and repairs is carefully monitored and resolved. All of the maintenance at Villa La Estancia is covered by the regular HOA dues that each owner is responsible for paying. In addition, fractional owners enjoy the service of a professional housekeeper to keep their residence clean and tidy year round. Full owners have the option to add this service as well.

Fractional Villas vs. Residence Clubs

Have you heard about fractional villa and residence clubs and want to know the difference? Both programs are associated with quality accommodations and services that every homeowner seeks in a vacation home. However, residence clubs tend to schedule their program so that owners are able to stay in a similar unit within a large multi-unit property. Many times, residence club ownership means that owners may not stay in the same unit twice. This system is best explained as your title is not linked to a specific unit and could change with each visit. On the flip side, fractional ownership at Villa La Estancia means you receive the deeds to a specific villa that you will enjoy for each and every visit. Your titled fractional real estate residence is yours for life, and Villa La Estancia allows our owners to rent out your home through our in-house rental program so you can earn vacation rental income on your property as well.

In conclusion, Villa La Estancia full or fractional ownership is a great option for those looking for that perfect vacation home at the beach. There are huge benefits to both types of ownership…which one interests you most?

Villa La Estancia’s Discovery Program invites you to try before you buy. Take a look.

Dream Kitchen at the Beach

What is the heart of the home? Most people consider the kitchen as the heart of their home. The kitchen is the perfect place where you can cook up a tasty meal for your family, visit with your friends and family, and is one of the most important features in a home. It is very important for the kitchen to have a quality design, as it can add to the value of your home and much more. Continue to read below to learn about having a dream kitchen at the beach, and why the Villa La Estancia in Cabo San Lucas has luxurious residences with perfect kitchens.

History of the Kitchen

Many years ago, the kitchen was just a room that was used to make meals. The kitchen was normally closed off from other rooms, and it was only used for cooking. Within the last few decades, the kitchen started to be transformed into another space that could be used for socializing, hanging out, and not just for cooking, which is why most kitchens built in newer homes open up to other rooms. The perfect kitchen will have a modern touch and flow, which works great for all modern families.
