When Spanish conquistadors first arrived in the area in 1730, the area was already populated by the Pericú. These people mainly survived by hunting wild animals, gathering roots, seeds, and collecting shellfish. Later between the years of 1885 to 1990, Los Cabos saw a huge increase in populations in both San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. Did you know that the Baja California peninsula in Mexico is the second longest on Earth? It is only smaller than the Malaysian peninsula and extends an impressive 1247 km (775 mi) in length. It separates the Sea of Cortez from the Pacific Ocean, and its width ranges from 40 km (25 mi) at its narrowest to 320 km (200 mi) at its widest point.
