Top 5 Cabo Beaches

Although travel restrictions are currently in place for the majority of the world, it doesn’t hurt to dream about a vacation to Mexico. When it is safe to vacation again, consider visiting Cabo San Lucas. Cabo San Lucas is a world class tourist destination that is located on the southern tip of the Baja California Sur peninsula. The area has a pleasant climate that is warm, sunny and dry most of the year.  There are excellent restaurants, great shopping, and some of the best beaches in Mexico.  Cabo is also a great place to buy a second home in Mexico. Villa La Estancia Cabo is a modern hotel-condo concept property that offers homeowners the best of both worlds. Expats who want a perfect vacation home in Mexico get a private beachfront residence, and access to luxury resort amenities and services, too. Keep reading below to learn more about the top 5 Cabo beaches to check out.

#1 El Medano Beach

El Médano beach is one of the top Cabo beaches. The luxurious Villa La Estancia property is located on this popular beach that is ideal for swimming. With amazing views of the El Arco rock formation, you can take a boat from El Medano beach to see El Arco up close for yourself. For an unforgettable view and experience, you can try parasailing from the beach as well. Also, El Medano beach has vendors selling food, locally made handicrafts and souvenirs. There isn’t a better way to shop than from the comfort of a beach lounger, right? You can even enjoy a deep tissue massage right on the sand. Friendly and hardworking masseuses are available to give you a massage on the beach.

#2 Love Beach

Our number 2 beach to visit is known as Love Beach. Love Beach is considered a romantic spot that earned its name because locals claim that when two people go to Love Beach, three people end up leaving. Love Beach has desert dunes in the background that makes for a picture-perfect setting.  The sparkling sea views will take your breath away, but no swimming is allowed at the beach due to strong currents. Instead, Love Beach is a great spot to enjoy a picnic or soak up the sun.

#3 Divorce Beach

Divorce Beach is situated next to Love Beach. This is another beach that doesn’t allow swimming as it has a beautiful yet rocky shoreline with strong tides. Divorce Beach is less crowded so if you want to get away from it all, it is a great spot. Make sure to bring an umbrella, snacks and drinks with you as there are no restaurants in the area.

#4 Chileno Beach

Chileno Beach is the 4th Cabo beach to visit. Known as the most popular public beach in the area, Chileno Beach has public bathrooms and showers for beach goers. Also, lifeguards work in the area to help keep swimmers safe.  Chileno Beach has plenty of parking although it can become quite crowded during weekends and holidays.  If you like snorkeling, you will love that you can walk into the ocean and snorkel around vibrant coral reefs. Lastly, if you love people watching, Chileno Beach is a great choice since it is quite popular.

#5 Santa Maria Beach

Our 4th choice for the top 5 Cabo beaches is Santa Maria Beach. Santa Maria Beach has crystal clear water and beautiful white sandy shores. Plus, there are lovely small tidepools in the area that are filled with crabs and fishes. You may even see tiny hedgehogs that are known to nestle among the rocks. Little ones will love playing in the tidepools, and adults will be impressed by the amazing sea views.

The History and Mystique of Tequila in Mexico

The pride and joy of Mexico is tequila, did you know that? It’s true! This delicious liquor has been a top choice for people around the world since it was first introduced in Tequila, Jalisco in the 16th century. Tequila’s predecessor was pulque, a fermented beverage that was made using the agave plant back in pre-Columbian times in Mexico before the Europeans invaded the country. Do you love Mexico and want to buy luxury real estate? If so, consider Villa La Estancia which is the premiere Nuevo Vallarta real estate opportunity in Riviera Nayarit. We offer elegant beachfront residences with all the bells and whistles so that your second home in Mexico is everything you have dreamed of and more. Read below to learn more interesting facts about tequila and its history, and maybe you can enjoy a tequila in your new home in Mexico soon!

Origins of Tequila: Pulque

The Aztecs inhabited ancient Mexico and began the process of fermenting the agave plant to create a milky alcoholic liquid known as pulque between the years 1000 B.C. through 200 A.D. Pulque was created using the sap of the agave plant, and the Aztec people event worshipped two Gods that had a unique relationship to pulque. Mayahuel was the first Aztec God that was the goddess of the plant, and her husband Patecatl was the second God who was worshipped as well. Around 200 A.D.,the first evidence that pulque appeared in ancient drawings found on stone walls in the area. However, pulque was not transformed into the tequila that we know and love today until years later when Spain invaded Mexico.

Spanish Conquistadors Influenced the Creation of Mezcal and Tequila

Mexican agave plant

Did you know that the fermentation process of pulque underwent a transformation when the Spanish conquistadors arrived in Mexico in the 1400’s and 1500’s? The Spanish invaders drink of choice was brandy, but brandy was difficult to find in North America. As a result, they started improvising to make a new liquor called mezcal by using the agave plant and mud. Tequila is technically a type of mezcal, but tequila must be made exclusively from the blue agave plant, while various types of agave plants can be used to make mezcal. During the 1500’s, the Spanish government opened trade operations between Mexico and Manila that allowed mezcal and alcohol to be more easily traded. Later, in the 1600’s the largest Mexican distillery was constructed in Tequila, Jalisco.

1700’s – The Transformation into Modern Tequila

The Cuervo family started distilling tequila commercially in Mexico in 1758. Over 100 years later in 1873, the Sauza family successfully identified that the blue agave plant is the best choice for producing high-quality tequila. Approximately fifty years later near Tijuana, the first margarita was created by an Irishman named Madden who owned a bar in Tijuana. Many Americans would travel down to Mexico so they could get alcohol during prohibition, and Tijuana had more than 100 bars in town during the 1920’s. James Graham, an American journalist, and his wife were vacationing in Mexico and stopped at a bar in Tijuana that was owned by Madden, an Irishman. Madden created the Tequila Daisy, which was the first margarita. Many bars closed down after 1936 when alcohol was legalized again in the United States. The drink created by Madden became known as the margarita, and is still one of the most popular drinks in the USA and around the world. The first recipe for the margarita was published a few decades later in Esquire Magazine in 1953, making the margarita even more popular around the world.

Tequila is Intellectual Property of Mexico

Tequila from Mexico

In the year of 1974, the Mexican government officially declared tequila intellectual property of Mexico. This ensures that tequila can only be made in Mexico, and other countries are prohibited from producing tequila legally. The laws in Mexico clearly state that tequila can only be made in the state of Jalisco, along with a couple municipalities in the neighboring states of Tamaulipas, Guanajuato, Nayarit, and Michoacan. To ensure the high quality of tequila being produced, a Tequila Regulatory Council was also created. Remember, tequila is an alcoholic beverage that is made from only the blue agave plant, and this alcohol is mostly produced in Tequila, Jalisco.

If so, you’ll be pleased to learn where to go for our #1 pick for a great photo in Puerto Vallarta. Where to take great photos in PV? Don’t miss the Cerro de la Cruz, our number one choice. The Cerro de la Cruz, also known as the Mirador, offers spectacular city, jungle and ocean views from up high. To get there, head to the famous Puerto Vallarta malecon downtown near the Mandala and Zoo bars. Then, start walking up the hill inland as you enjoy an urban hike. Stay straight on Calle Abasolo as you make your way up the Mirador’s stairs until you reach the top of Cerro de la Cruz. The Cerro de la Cruz mirador viewpoint offers stunning city, Sierra Madre jungle and ocean views which make for one of the best photos in PV. What better way to get a nice work out and enjoy amazing vistas, too? The 360 views from up top simply can’t be beat. Look out for Los Arcos in the south, downtown Puerto Vallarta right in front, the lush jungle behind you, and even Punta Mita is visible to the north. • #2 Puerto Vallarta Sign

Our second choice for the best photos in PV is the Puerto Vallarta sign. All across Mexico, colorful block letters spelling out city names are on display. Currently, Puerto Vallarta’s city sign is on the Malecon boardwalk near the main plaza and arches. The PV sign was unveiled back in 2016 during the World Tourism Day events.  Designed and created by  Carlos Terres, a talented sculptor and artist, Terres is the same artist that replaced the destroyed crown at the city’s main church. Take a photo in front of the Puerto Vallarta sign which is a perfect keepsake from a day spent in town. While the PV City Sign has been moved to various locations around town including the Marina and the Amphitheater, it is back in its original Malecon location. Take time to appreciate the traditional designs and colorful motifs in the details.

Our third choice for best photo in PV is the renovated Puerto Vallarta pier. The Los Muertos Beach pier was inaugurated with fireworks and live music back on January 4th, 2013 after nearly 3 years of reconstruction. Designed by architect José de Jesús Torres Vega. Torres Vega won the Mexican Biannual Architecture Prize, too. The renovated pier is a top Puerto Vallarta landmark and ideal spot for a best photo in PV. Visitors and Villa La Estancia residents should make sure to visit at night, too. At that time, the pier is lit up creating a brilliant sailboat design that makes for a stunning image. Also, water taxis are at the pier so you can hop on to explore the beauty of Banderas Bay at sea. Take a water taxi and head south to cruise the bay to check out the area’s pristine beaches and quaint villages. Las Ánimas, Quimixto, Mismaloya, and Yelapa are top spots to visit. These lovely destinations offer amazing photo opportunities, too.
