Things to Do in Riviera Nayarit: Chalk Art Walk 2020

In Mexico, Banderas Bay is home to many different cultural events. The Bucerias Street Festival & Chalk Art Walk 2020 is held in February in Bucerias, a charming and quaint coastal town in Riviera Nayarit. Bucerias is located approximately twenty minutes from Puerto Vallarta. Bucerias  has many interesting art galleries, great restaurants, and breathtaking beaches. From February 4th – February 6th, the annual Chalk Art street festival will occur. The festival starts at 2:00pm. If you will be visiting Riviera Nayarit during the first part of February or live in the area, then you won’t want to miss the street festival. Chalk Art Walk 2020

This year’s Chalk Art Walk 2020 will feature more than twenty-five creative and inspiring artists. This year’s theme at the Chalk Art Walk 2020 is “One Love – Celebrating Unity Throughout the World”. Therefore, every artist will use chalk to create a harmonious image that depicts an animal, a human, and a plant. Everyone that attends the Chalk Art Walk 2020 will enjoy live entertainment, delicious foods, and different booths and vendors that will participate in the festival. Also, the event proceeds will go towards DIF of Nayarit, which is an organization that the government runs for seniors, disabled people, and orphan services. Proceeds will also go towards helping A Dog’s New Life Rescue Shelter, which is a shelter for animal rescues. 

Local Artists Supported

Bucerias is a great place to live or visit for a vacation to Mexico. They have regularly scheduled cultural events in Riviera Nayarit, so something fun is always going on. Photos and sponsor names will also be posted on Facebook, too. Remember, proceeds from the Chalk Art Walk 2020 will support A Dog’s New Life Rescue Shelter and Nayarit DIF.

Puerto Vallarta’s 2019 Festival Gourmet International Has Arrived!

Villa La Estancia residents take note! The 25th Anniversary of the Festival Gourmet International will be held from November 19th to 24th, 2019. With exciting events in Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit and Tepic, this year’s program is destined to outdo past year’s events. The 25th anniversary of the festival includes more than 30 world famous chefs that are participating in the 2019 Festival Gourmet International. We don’t want our beloved Villa La Estancia residents to miss this exciting gastronomic event taking place at our front door. 25th Annual Festival Gourmet International

Local chefs Thierry Blouet and Heinz Reize put together the first event back in 1995 when they joined together to create the Festival Gourmet. Their hope was to promote local restaurants by inviting internationally recognized chefs to Banderas Bay. At that time, only six local hotels and six restaurants in the Puerto Vallarta area participated in the inaugural festival. However, over the course of the next 25 years, more than half a million people have attended the Festival Gourmet International. In addition, more than six hundred celebrity chefs have participated, too. In fact, many people believe that the Festival Gourmet International has really helped promote Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit as important culinary scenes. At this year’s event, there will be more than 30 hotels and restaurants participating including Villa La Estancia’s own La Casona restaurant.

Festival 2019 Program

The 2019 Festival Gourmet International will be held from Tuesday, Nov. 19th to Sunday, Nov. 24th. The first event will take place at Vidanta’s Convention Center on Nov. 19th at 8pm and will include all participating chefs and hosts of this year’s event. The following day, Chefs Thierry Blouet, Heinz Reize and Roland Menetrey will come together to share their combined 150 years of experience and passion for the culinary arts at Cafe des Artistes. Together, these impressive chefs will share some of their favorite recipes with event attendees. In addition to tasting great food, guests will be able to sample some of the best wines and tequilas presented by professional Sommeliers. Additional special activities at this year’s Festival Gourmet International include a tribute to wine and cheese, live jazz music, and even an exciting Polo Tournament.

Banderas Bay Restaurants Involved

There are more than 30 top restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit and Tepic that are taking part in the 25th Anniversary of the Festival Gourmet International. Participating restaurants include Azafran, Barrio Bistro, Cafe des Artistes, Coco Tropical, El Dorado, Emiliano, Hector’s Kitchen, Icu, Kaiser Maximilian, La Terraza Di Roma, La Palapa, Le Kliff, Loma 42, River Cafe, Stars, Trio, Tuna Blanca, Xoklo, Andrea, Azur, Bordeaux, Divum, Eugenia, Las Casitas, La Casona, La Corona, Lucca, Mozzamare, and Tukipa. As you can see, there are lots of great new restaurants participating in this year’s Festival Gourmet International. An old favorite, La Casona which is located onsite at our very own Villa La Estancia, will feature a special menu for the event that includes delicious Mediterranean cuisine prepared by local Chef Leonardo Castro. Castro has over 25 years in the culinary industry and specializes in international-level techniques that effortlessly combine French, Italian,Thai, Asian, Mediterranean and Mexican influences. As our Villa La Estancia homeowners already know, La Casona is well known for having the best cuts of meat in town including Kobe and New York cuts.

Summer in Riviera Nayarit

It’s summer in Riviera Nayarit, which means the heat is on! While high season in Banderas Bay and Riviera Nayarit is during the winter months, summer also brings plenty of visitors into the area to enjoy the natural beauty even if it’s a little steamy. Thousands of visitors come to Riviera Nayarit all year long, but if you visit during the summer, you may need some tips on how to handle the heat and humidity that can be quite intense at times. If you do, then continue to read below for our tips on how to enjoy summer in Riviera Nayarit.

Swimming in the Ocean

When the heat is on in Riviera Nayarit, one of the best ways to stay cool is to go swimming in the ocean. Riviera Nayarit is known for having some of the best beaches in Banderas Bay, and tourists and residents love to enjoy a refreshing dip in the ocean. The beaches in Nuevo Vallarta have wide, sandy shores and there isn’t a ton of shells or rocks like there is in other beaches near Puerto Vallarta. You can also find many restaurants on the beach in Nuevo Vallarta or Bucerias. In the mood for lunch al fresco, or want to sip a refreshing margarita as you take in the incredible ocean views? The options are endless as there are many restaurants to choose from in Riviera Nayarit that are great places to enjoy a nice meal during the day or evening. Bucerias is a quaint town on the beach just north of PV where you can even go horseback riding on the beach for a small fee. Jump in the ocean after your horseback ride to cool off and enjoy summer in Riviera Nayarit that much more.

Enjoy a Morning Hike 

Banderas Bay has some of the best hiking, rivers, and waterfalls in all of Mexico. While the entire region becomes quite dry during the winter months, the summer’s rainy season replenishes the area’s rivers and watering holes. A great way to enjoy summer in Riviera Nayarit is to take an early morning hike before the temperatures rise too high. One of the best hikes in the area is Monkey Mountain, which is found on the way to Higuera Blanca in between Punta Mita and Sayulita. Monkey Mountain is a great hike that the whole family can enjoy. Head out as early as you can as some parts of the hike do not have shade. It will all be worth it though once you read the top of Monkey Mountain and can enjoy impressive panoramic views of Banderas Bay. If you don’t mind heading down into Puerto Vallarta, there is another lovely hike near Palo Maria, which is about 10 minutes south of downtown PV. There you will find a beautiful flowing river during the summer months, and watering holes that are ideal for a refreshing dip. Plan ahead and bring a picnic to enjoy under the huge trees that shade the area. If you don’t mind a bit more of a workout, try to hike inland and you will reach a remarkable waterfall. It is a great spot to swim, dive, and float as you cool down in the refreshing waters.

Chill Out at the VIP Cinema

Another great way to stay cool during the summer in Riviera Nayarit is to enjoy a movie at the new VIP Cinema near Fluvial. Located inside the La Isla Shopping center in the hotel zone, the VIP Cinema features a full menu, drinks, and desserts so that you can enjoy the full VIP experience while you watch the latest blockbuster. Take a seat in the comfy leather recliners, and get comfortable. Peruse the extensive menu and when you are ready to order, simply push the button located at your seat and a waiter will come to take your order. Cash and cards are accepted. After you enjoy your movie, why not take the time to check out some of the amazing shops at La Isla. There are popular brand name and local stores that tourists and residents alike love to visit to find their next favorite outfit. Make sure you check out the turtle sanctuary and koi fish pond on your way out.

Riviera Nayarit Events in January – The Taste of La Cruz

For the fourth year running, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Riviera Nayarit will host The Taste of La Cruz festival on Saturday January 24th, 2015 from 3pm to 7pm at La Marina Riviera Nayarit.

A great event for Riviera Nayarit visitors and residents alike, the Taste of La Cruz unites local restaurants from La Cruz, BucerĂ­as, Nuevo Vallarta and Punta Mita with artisans and stalls selling all kinds of arts, jewelry, clothing and edible delights. Tickets for the event will cost $150 pesos, which includes a free beverage and the opportunity to purchase food and souvenirs from a plethora of stalls, in addition to lots of fun.

If you are a resident in Riviera Nayarit or are thinking of purchasing in the area in the future, this is a great event to meet like-minded people and see the unique blend of restaurants, business and services available in Riviera Nayarit. The Taste of La Cruz has invited more than 80 local artisans, painters, jewelry-makers and chefs to contribute to one of Riviera Nayarit’s most unique cultural fairs.

There will also be music and entertainment included, with a great line up from the Tatewari flamenco group, Al & Zoe Latin/Swing performers and The Banderas Bay Jazz Allstars in the Xiriki Marina Amphitheater.

This event is highly recommended if you are contemplating making a move to Riviera Nayarit for retirement. It will give you a taste of what’s on offer culturally and socially in the area.
